Feeling nervous about the writing paper? While there\u2019s no word limit, <strong>try to complete Part 1 in 20 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>Part 2 requires you to write at least 250 words<\/strong>, so you\u2019ll need to allow a little extra time for this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>Three tips to get a great mark in Part 1<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1. Read the question carefully<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Underline the key points and look at what the question is asking you to do:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\"><em><u>Summarise<\/u> the information by <u>selecting<\/u> and <u>reporting<\/u> the <u>main<\/u> features, and make <u>comparisons<\/u> where <u>relevant<\/u><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">To get a great score, you need to do all these things, so remember to read the introduction to the infographic as well and make sure you understand what the data shows.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Plan<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Before you start writing, think about the main point for each of your paragraphs. Look at the <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">outline<\/span><\/em> below with some useful phrases and linkers because <strong>a well-structured text, which uses a range of language, will impress the examiner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Use a variety of language<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">To get top marks, you need to show <strong>a range of grammar and vocabulary<\/strong> which is appropriate for the task. Look at the table later in the article to see some examples of language you usually find in reports and practise using it when you\u2019re writing from now on.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>Structuring your answer<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">In the first paragraph, you should <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">briefly<\/span><\/em> explain what is happening in the infographic. A lot of this language is quite specific to talking about numbers, so might be new for you. Keep a list of useful <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">chunks<\/span><\/em> of language so you use the correct <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">collocations<\/span><\/em>, e.g. you can say a <em>sharp increase<\/em> but not a <em>sharp majority<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>Describing a process<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">You may also be asked to write a report describing a process in this part of the test. About current trends? Or providing predictions for the future?
