Recent <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">research<\/span><\/em> shows that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetworldstats.com\/stats7.htm\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">English<\/a> is the top language for internet use. In fact, almost three times as many people are communicating on <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">the net<\/span><\/em> in English than in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">This exposure helps make learning English more <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">meaningful<\/span><\/em> for your teenager and gives them a real reason to improve their language skills. Nevertheless, it is still important to talk to your child to get them thinking about <u>how<\/u> and <u>why<\/u> English will help them in life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">One of the most effective ways to do this is to get them to use their imaginations. Ask them to think about where they\u2019ll be in five or ten years\u2019 time: <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>&#8211; Where will they be living?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>&#8211; What job will they be doing? <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>&#8211; Where would they like to go on their holidays?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>&#8211; How will knowing how to speak English play a part in each of these scenarios?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Once they are convinced that speaking the language is a useful skill, you can point them in the right direction and share some websites that will help them practise and learn English in an interesting, fun way, using their smartphones, tablets or laptops.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Here are five of our favourites:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musical.ly\/en-US\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1.Musical.ly<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">If you have music-loving teens at home, why not introduce them to <strong>musical.ly<\/strong>? It\u2019s an app, available on both iPhone and Android that allows people to upload their own video creations, <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">lip-syncing<\/span><\/em> along to famous songs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">It\u2019s similar to Instagram, though with videos rather than pictures. However, it has also recently added trailers and <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">clips<\/span><\/em> from films and series, so you don\u2019t have to be a fan of music to enjoy the site.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Teens <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">are bound to<\/span><\/em> find something they enjoy as there are videos from lots of different genres &#8211; music videos from The Beatles, Metallica and Taylor Swift or films and TV series like Harry Potter, Stranger Things and Rick and Morty. Plus, they can choose the level they want to try, from easy (with ten percent of the words missing) to expert, where they have to fill in ALL the gaps!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/es-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3.Netflix<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Speaking of TV shows, did you know you can watch <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/es-en\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix<\/a><\/strong> with subtitles in English or Spanish? Teens can <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">show off<\/span><\/em> their dancing skills, give fashion or health tips to fans around the world or make short videos doing their favourite hobbies, like skating or <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">gaming<\/span><\/em>.
