You can use the word \u2018get\u2019 on its own, with a preposition to make a phrasal verb, or with a participle in the passive voice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Now we\u2019re going to look at some of these uses in more detail. Get = to obtain, to receive, to buy<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">The word \u2018get\u2019 can be used as a verb to express the actions of obtaining, receiving or buying. Get something done<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Our final use of the word get is a more informal way of saying \u2018to have something done\u2019 for us or to us. This is normally when we pay for some kind of service &#8211; such as at the <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><strong>hairdresser<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, mechanic or dentist.
