And with 10 marks <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>up for grabs<\/strong><\/span><\/em>, it\u2019s an important section. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">This short guide is here to give you advice to get the best mark possible. Read on to find out how to do Part 7, as well as some extra tips and resources for passing the B2 First.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>What\u2019s in Reading and Use of English Part 7?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Also known as \u2018multiple matching\u2019, Part 7 of the B2 First requires you to read a text that has been <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>split up<\/strong><\/span><\/em> into a number of shorter passages. You will have 10 questions to answer that are based on each of the passages. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Your job is to choose which passage \u2013 usually labelled A, B, C and D \u2013 best suits each of the questions. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">You may use each text more than once to answer the questions. Therefore, it\u2019s essential that you familiarise yourself with this type of activity before going into the exam.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>How do I answer the questions?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Not sure how to <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>tackle<\/strong><\/span><\/em> this part of the exam? Follow these 5 simple steps. <\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #4d524d;\"><strong>1. Read the questions and underline<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Firstly, read over the ten questions and underline the key words in the questions. There should be around two or three important words in each question. Skim read the passages<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Next, quickly skim read the passages to get a general idea of what each one is about. Spend <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>roughly<\/strong><\/span><\/em> 20 seconds to read each one at this point. <\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #4d524d;\"><strong>3. Read section A in more detail <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Now you\u2019ve got the gist of the passages, go back to text A and read it more carefully. Duncan describes problems at the beginning of his football career, even before he became professional.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #4d524d;\"><strong>4. Write \u2018A\u2019 next to relevant questions <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">When you think you know which questions relate to passage A, write \u2018A\u2019 in the answer box corresponding to the question. It\u2019s a good idea to underline the part of the text that you think relates to the specific question you\u2019re connecting it to. This way, you can read over it at the end to check if it makes sense.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Looking at the parts underlined in step 3, we see a match for the first question. Repeat for each passage <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Finally, repeat these steps for the other passages and make sure you have only one letter written for each question. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Don\u2019t forget to spend a couple of minutes at the end reading through and checking. Here it will be easier and faster if you have previously underlined key information in both the questions and the passages.  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>Cambridge English tips<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>Study synonyms<\/strong>: As this part of the exam tests your ability to understand different vocabulary, it\u2019s a great idea to make a note of synonyms for words that you come across. This way, you\u2019ll spot them quicker in the main text.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>Read as much as possible<\/strong>: One of the most beneficial activities that you can do to prepare for Part 7 is reading as many texts as you can. Whether it\u2019s books, newspaper articles or blog posts, it\u2019ll help improve your general English reading skills. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>Try paraphrasing<\/strong>: <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Pick out<\/strong><\/span><\/em> some sentences from an article and write them down. Then, try rewording them so that they have the same meaning as the original sentence.
