They\u2019re both pretty similar and follow exactly the same writing process, so you\u2019ll save yourself a lot of time by covering both of them here!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Let\u2019s start by taking a look at the differences between a C1 letter and email.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>What is the difference between the C1 Advanced email and letter?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Emails and letters in the C1 Writing exam are very similar. If you\u2019re ever unsure whether you need to write formally or informally, <strong>pay attention to the kind of language that\u2019s used in the original letter\/email<\/strong>. If they write informally, then you need to write informally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">The topic (<span style=\"color: #FFA500;\">orange<\/span>) is that your friend is coming to town for a week. This is the perfect time to <strong>start thinking of expressions, grammatical structures and vocabulary<\/strong> that you want to include in your writing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Lastly, you need to mention where your friend should go, what they should do, and why (<span style=\"color: #0000FF;\">blue<\/span>). Your opening paragraph should always clearly state why you are writing or at least reply to something that was mentioned in the original letter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Next, we can see that the candidate wrote three topic paragraphs (<span style=\"color: #0000FF;\">blue<\/span>) which suggest places for their friend to visit, things they can do there, and reasons why their friend should go. They include phrasal verbs, contractions and informal language, which are all appropriate for this specific task. Also, notice how the candidate invents things about their friend. So long as you don\u2019t <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>go off on a tangent<\/strong><\/span><\/em>, adding little details like in the example can be a great way for you to <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>show off<\/strong><\/span><\/em> some idioms and vocabulary to the examiner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">The closing paragraph (<span style=\"color: #FFA500;\">orange<\/span>) <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>wraps up<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the letter nicely before finishing off with a friendly and informal \u2018take care\u2019. A top tip for the closing paragraph is to include something you want your reader to do. This can be giving you a call, visiting you while in town, writing back with information, etc.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #4d524d;\"><strong>Step 3: Check it<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Now that you\u2019ve finished writing your text, it\u2019s time to check it. Make sure to give yourself at least <strong>10 minutes<\/strong> to check your writing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Here\u2019s a quick checklist of things to keep in mind:\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"list_styles\"><ul class=''>\n<span style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><li><i class='icon-ok'><\/i>Have you done what the task asked you to do?<\/li>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><li><i class='icon-ok'><\/i>Is your style of writing and tone appropriate? <\/li>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><li><i class='icon-ok'><\/i>Is your vocabulary appropriate?<\/li>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><li><i class='icon-ok'><\/i>Is your text well connected and organised?<\/li>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><li><i class='icon-ok'><\/i>Have you checked your spelling, grammar and punctuation?<\/li>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><li><i class='icon-ok'><\/i>Have you used a good range of vocabulary and grammar?<\/li>\n<\/span>\n<\/ul><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>Useful Language<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">The text we looked at in this blog post was quite informal, however, sometimes you need to write something that\u2019s more formal.
