Anyone can get all the answers with enough practice and the right exam strategy. It specifically looks at your understanding and accurate use of different structures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">You may have noticed there are lots of different ways to express the same idea in English. Here\u2019s an example where four sentences have the same meaning:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>Tom and Will are the same height.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>Tom is as tall as Will.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>Will is not shorter than Tom.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 15px;\"><em>Tom matches Will in height.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Truly proficient English speakers should be able to grasp the meaning, no matter how it\u2019s expressed. By getting you to <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>reformulate<\/strong><\/span><\/em> sentences, Part 4 assesses your ability to do this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #2d346f;\"><strong>Strategies for getting the answer right<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Here are some ways to ensure you get top marks in Part 4 of the test:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #787ea1;\"><strong>Allocate yourself enough time<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">This section may seem quite short, especially compared to Use of English <a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhousebcn.com\/en\/passing-cambridge-c2-proficiency-reading-and-use-of-english-part-2\/\">Part 2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhousebcn.com\/en\/passing-cambridge-c2-proficiency-part-3-reading-and-use-of-english\/\">Part 3<\/a>. You may be tempted to spend less time on it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">However, Part 4 is more challenging than other sections and worth extra points. You should spend as much time on it as the other sections. That\u2019s around ten minutes, <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>give or take<\/strong><\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #787ea1;\"><strong>Focus on the keyword<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">The word in bold is usually the main element in a complex structure. Its meaning and form should give you important clues. However, we can see the common definition doesn\u2019t fit here. We\u2019re not being asked to reformulate the part of the sentence about the plan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">The word \u2018if\u2019 would fit but we can\u2019t use it. That tells us we\u2019re looking for a conditional structure. Quickly brainstorming grammar structures with the word \u2018event\u2019 should bring us to the answer: \u2018in the event\u2019.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #787ea1;\"><strong>Try working backwards<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">If you can\u2019t figure out what belongs in the gap, look at the first sentence instead. Consider different ways to express the same idea. One of the ones you think of may be the correct answer \u2013 or at least <em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>put you on the right track<\/strong><\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #787ea1;\"><strong>Say the sentence to yourself<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">By now, you should have developed a good instinct. You can tell when a structure sounds unnatural and therefore wrong.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 15px;\">Read your answer to yourself in your head before you write it down. If it\u2019s incorrect, you\u2019ll probably hear it.
