At Oxford House, we know learning a language extends beyond the classroom. It’s important to practise your skills in more authentic settings too. That’s why we organise clubs and events where you can speak, enjoy yourself, and socialise with other language learners.
Here’s a look at the events and clubs we have on offer this term at Oxford House where you can practice your English or Spanish.
1. Happy Friday
Our monthly event, Happy Friday, is one of the most popular language exchanges in Barcelona. Come along to meet other people, practice English, Spanish and Catalan – and have lots of fun while you’re at it.
Black and white party at Mau Mau
It happens once a month on a Friday and is always free, which means you can save your money for those giant Gin ‘n Tonics you get. Speaking of which, there are drink discounts too! And lots of mingling activities to help you break the ice. Each month there is a different theme. The most recent event – a black and white party at Mau Mau – was a roaring success.
Learn about Spanish and Catalan culture and practise your language skills with our Spanish Experience. Each month we bring you different themes and opportunities to explore some of the most beautiful and authentic spots in Barcelona. The Spanish Experience is €10, plus any additional costs of food or entrance fees.
Have you always wanted to try calçots? Well, you’re in luck! Our first event is the big onion feast. You’ll have lots to eat and drink, and you can’t fail to have a good time!

Here’s what else you have to look forward to this year in our monthly Spanish event:
If you’re looking for a conversation class with a difference, try Chatty Thursday with Oxford House teacher Justin. It’s fun, dynamic and based on a weekly theme. In the past, students have talked about dreams, how to deal with stress and business meetings, they’ve even done a murder mystery. All in English! Also expect debates and Cambridge Exam Speaking practice.
Chatty Thursday happens every first and third Thursday of the month. It’s completely free for most Oxford House students and only €3 for Economic English students – or anyone who isn’t currently studying at Oxford House.
Sign up for Chatty Thursday at reception and be quick! Only limited spaces are available.
4. Charlemos
Charlemos is the Spanish version of Chatty Thursday and takes place on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. It’s an excellent way to practise your fluency and bond with your classmates in the comfort of the school. It’s also run by an Oxford House teacher and follows different themes with error correction at the end of class. Charlemos is only €3 for anyone who wants to join – ¡Qué ganga!

A very special event happening at Oxford House is the 6th annual InnovateELT Conference. We’re proud to once again welcome some of the most well-known and respected professionals in the industry.
